The Chinese singer fulfilled her longtime wish of singing with Teresa Teng through a virtual performance at the late idol’s memorial concert

Ka Keung remembered when Faye Wong and Beyond worked on the film BEYOND’S DIARY (MOK HEI SIU NIN KUNG). At the time Faye’s Cantonese was not fluent and the four of them often made fun of her. Faye was very smart and very quickly spoke fluent Cantonese. She would even strike back. Ka Keung continued, “Although we haven’t seen each other for a long time, when I sent you message to her to ask her for a photo to remember Ka Kui, she very quickly sent two for me to choose. Thank you very much! If I have a chance, I hope to be able to write another song for her.”
It’s almost hard to believe that we are coming up on the 20th anniversary of Wong Ka Kui’s death. And I’m touched by what Ka Keung had to say about Faye. I thought Faye and Beyond drifted apart over the years, so it’s nice to see that they are still on good terms. Plus the fact that he wants to write another song for her really gives me hope…
For those who aren’t familiar with Beyond:
They were the biggest band in Hong Kong from the late 80’s to early 90’s and they were lead by their talented and charismatic frontman Wong Ka Kui. Beyond and Faye were under the same record label (Cinepoly), so they collaborated quite a few times. They did a movie together, duets, and went to each others concerts. There used to be some old videos on YT of them teasing her during interviews and stuff so you could see they were pretty good friends.
In 1993, Ka Kui died after suffering massive head injuries from a fall during a taping of a show in Japan. Just an awful tragedy and a huge shock to everyone in HK and to Cantopop-rock fans.
Afterwards, the band re-grouped and continued on in his honor. Ka Keung (Ka Kui’s brother) wrote “Guardian Angel” for Faye. One of the most brilliant songs she has ever sung. Which is why I’m excited to hear that he wants to write for her again.
Love is all a matter of timing.
